I've never used marzipan before but I bought some to do some decor on my step-dad's father's day cake instead of fondant b/c he'd sooner eat dirt than fondant. Anyhow, I've never used the stuff but it was darn expensive so I'd rather not waste it if possible. I'd like to make a 'strawberry plant' in a clay pot. The cake construction part, I think that I'm all set and for the strawberries, I plan to use real ones so all I really need to do are the stems and leaves. Since (to my knowledge) marzipan doesn't dry like fondant, are my leaves destined to be flat and droopy? What do I use when I'm rolling it out...crisco, cornstarch, powdered sugar? Any advice is welcomed
