You can use a Key Lime extract, I think that would be better, more stable to.

Lorann's flavoring oils make a lime and a keylime flavoring oil that would work.

I think they only sell flavorings and extracts in 50gallon barrells, j/k.
I wish they sold small amounts like Lorann oils

actually no, for smaller operations they sell 4 oz bottles you simply need to call them and ask, they will give you price and send it out.

I think fresh zest and jiuce would also work. When I do my creamsicle cake I use tangelo zest and juice for the buttercream and it is heavenly. A beautifully strong but not overpowering orange tone.

Ok, its time for a tropical vacation. Those were the extracts that i was talking about, but could not rem the name, thank you. And the idea for the zest and juice sounds wonderful, in either case when can I come over for a taste test?

I recently made the Key Lime buttercream recipe on here
http://cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-7294-5-Key-Lime-Cake-With-Key-Lime-Buttercream.html
and the cake is just so-so IMHO, but the icing is awesome! I did add some meringue powder to it to aid in crusting in this humid weather.
