I made a carved boat to top a cake I'm doing for Father's day. It is carved and ready to be covered (I'll probably do it tomorrow) and i was planning to use fondant but I'm a little worried. I've only covered relatively flat surfaces before and this is very 'bumpy' from the carved out center to the top of the windshield is 4-5 inches. Is this doable? Should I just do buttercream? I can post a pic of the carved cake if that will help...I'll go take on now.
