I have an offer to make cuppies for young kid's parties.. they only want to pay $1 per cupcake because they will be very simple and no more than 15 at a time. I'm wondering if it's worth my time to do them?? Just plain choc or vanilla with a swirl of frosting.. that's it.. nothing crazy.. that may come later, but for now, simple...

how do you figure out the cost of running an oven? any help would be appreciated!!!

Thanks
Wendy

I'm not sure if would be worth it to you but as a suggestion, if you use a mix or doctored mix, it is very easy to prepare 2/3 of a recipe yielding 16 cupcakes.

For example, I use the durable duncan hines recipe. For 2/3 batch I use 345 of the mix, 2 eggs, 47 grams oil, 77 grams water, 151 grams sour cream, and 30 grams pudding.

This way, you would be able to cut down waste and increase your profit margin. Sorry I don't know how to figure in oven costs icon_redface.gif

I live near Lancaster, Pa. What is the going rate for homemade cupcakes in this apart of the U.S.? Can anyone help me too? I was thinking a little more than the supermarket rate but I sure know mine taste a lot better! I'm sure products in New England and New york cost a lot more, and was hoping someone from my neck of the woods could give me some advice.

Thanks, Grammy1963

I'd say anywhere from $2 -$3.

I'm curious Wendy...what did you decide to do? Did you try the durable dh recipe?

M - I took the job.. not sure if I'm going to stay with it though - I was in Costco and their cupcakes were HUGE and beautiful, and after doing the math, they can do them for about .89 a piece.. it's really not worth the company's time and money to go with me.. apparently, they don't know that yet! LOL I lowered my price to meet the $1 per cc, but it's mostly to get me started.. I know I won't be making the rent with it.. but it could lead to bigger and better... I hope anyway..

I haven't tried the recipe yet, but I think I've made it before or something close.. there are so many recipes on CC that it becomes a blurr on what I've tried.. I do like Lisa's Doctored -I tend to go back to that a lot..

Thanks!
w.
