I'm making a cake for our county fair competition (first time) and I just got my dummy cakes in the mail. I want to do something different and was thinking of making it (from the top) 8", 10", 6", 12", 14" instead of the traditional descending sizes. I would like to be able to do some stringwork on the bottom of the 10" so that it hangs over the edge and then make some gumpaste flowers to attach to the 6" tier. Anyone have any pictures like this? I've seen quite a bit of stringwork photos but nothing like I'm talking about.

The most gorgeous string work I see is on the cake show gallery pictures, and other show pictures on google. My string work teacher (Michele Foster) said hardly anyone does string work because no one is willing to pay for the time! I guess this is why I never see it on real cake websites icon_smile.gif I love to do it, it's so relaxing. You might just have to try it, since it probably hasn't been done before =more points for judging!
