Hi all. I am planning on making a cake for the bf's birthday that looks like a giant oreo. I have a couple of questions.

1. I only have round cake pans. What is the best way to get the oreo shape? (Cut a bit from around the middle and ice with white frosting?)

2. I am going to use buttercream to decorate. What is the best way to get the right dark brown/black color?

Any other ideas are welcome too!

Check out this pan: http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/sku9379231/index.cfm?pkey=cbakeware%2Dnew

That will give the perfect shape. Otherwise a round pan will work just fine - the cookies are round anyway icon_biggrin.gif

Black coloring added to your BC until you are happy with it matching your cake color (don't forget to tint your cake batter).

Good Luck!

That pan is cute. Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to get it in one day. icon_eek.gif

Should I add cocoa to the buttercream before adding the black? Wondering if that would make a richer color?

The cake will be chocolate. I wouldn't dare use any other flavor. LOL
