Hi All !!

If I wrap floral tape around floral wire, would it be ok to stick it directly in my cakes? I know there is an issue with bare metal wire going into cakes, but what if it is wrapped in floral tape??

Thank You,

=)

I do that frequently. Although it's so much easier to just purchase the covered wire. It's the same price.

When I took the Michaels classes the instructor to us no. Its not food safe. Just insert a straw into the cake and add the flowers. You can even use the thin plastic stir sticks from the coffee shops if a straw is too big.

I got the stir sticks and they were way too big too. I tried putting RI on the wire before sticking it into the straw but it was no help.

I have seen 2 kinds of stir sticks. The kind with 2 small holes and the one larger hole. Has anybody tried the smaller 2 hole sticks? Maybe they'll work better????

Great I'll look there today. Did you put icing on the wire too?

I will put the wire in the straw, and then stuff a small piece of fondant in the top of the straw to hold the wire in place.

I'd also let the fondant dry out a little before stuffing it in the straw. If you use really fresh fondant the wire will work groves in the fondant and move around.
