Hi everyone,
My neice has picked a cake out of Harry & David catalog she wants. It is a pink & chocolate SQUARE checkerboard cake. (Thanks to CC I figured out how to make the square checkerboard).

My question is...what do you all suggest for my "pink" cake. A raspberry or strawberry cake batter or just simply coloring white batter? If coloring the cake batter, how much food coloring should I use? It is kinda dark pink.

Thanks so much!

How about a pink velvet cake? You can eliminate the cocoa powder, and just add a touch of pink or red color to your batter. That way you don't have to worry about berry allergies. You can always serve some berry syrup, ice cream, or fresh berries on the side.

To me, the velvet is in the texture of the cake, not the color.

Chocolate and strawberry a or choc and raspberry are both classic combinations that have been around for a long time. I guess it just depends on prefernce. Ask your neice which she would like.
