I am just starting out. I've completed all of the Wilton classes and I'm starting to get orders adn not sure how exactly to start with my pricing.
I have a half-sheet cake coming up. It will be just a single layer with no filling...all buttercream and a star-tipped image on it. I have no clue what to charge for it. I'm in OH near Columbus....any ideas on this would be great! Do I charge per slice (going off Wilton estimates) or per cake?
Most people charge by the slice. However, with sheet cakes and non-tiered cakes, some people will just set a price for the whole cake. That's really up to you. I would suggest you check out your custom local bakers (not Walmart) and find out how much they charge. Then you can set your prices accordingly.
At some point you need to figure out how much everything costs you, so that you can make sure you are taking in a profit. =o)
