my standard american buttercreme as follows:
1/2 c. crisco
1/2 c. butter
1 # confectioners sugar
1 tspn flavoring (vanilla or?)
liquid of your choice to make it to your consistency

My variations
Peanut Butter = half the butter and crisco and add 1/2 c. peanut butter
Cream Cheese = half the butter, no crisco 3/4 c. cream chese (few drops lemon juice)
Milk Chocolate = add 1/8 to 1/4 c cocoa powder (try like hell to use dutch processed)
Dark Chocolate = add 1/2 c. + cocoa powder, again dutch processed if possible.
Chocolate Mint = one of the above chocolate recipies, add few drops mint flavoring
Chocolate Nut Butter = follow peanut butter recipe, use your choice of nut butters and anywhere from 1/8 to 1/2 c. cocoa powder.

any one of these will do an 8 or 9" 2 layer cake.

On this website, Decorator's Cream Cheese Frosting is all I use. I love it on everything. Have used it on Red Velvet cake, Carrot cake and on WASC cake, and it is always loved.
