Hey Everybody I'm new here and wanted to say Hi, So Hi.

I am a grocery store decorator that is bored senseless with the extremely limited decorating that I am allowed to do at the store. I have decided to try to get my own little side business going and am looking for information on doing so.

Also interested in any tricks of the trade and "secrets" that other decorators have discovered over the years.

I suck at making my own buttercream, so any tips there would be especially helpful.

Look forward to "meeting" you.

Welcome! You'll gain more info than you know what to do with! And don't worry about the BC issue - there are some amazing recipes here. You'll be making all different flavors, then you'll have to try making some cuppies, then cookies, and we can't forget the Whoopie pies!! But it's hard to get all that baking done when you're glued to CC!! It's quite a balancing act. And sometimes you have to actually visit with your family - although I just have mine stop by the computer or in the kitchen!! icon_lol.gif

Hi Froggymom, and Welcome to CC.

You'll find some great info on here. You can also check out YouTube, some members have videos on there (Toneda and serious_cakes).

Soon you will be finding excuses to make cakes and try recipes. And it is a very addicting site and the galleries is like cake-porn!!! I love going thru the galleries looking at all the amazing talent out there in the cake/cupcake/cookie world.

You'll get great advice and help from many CC'ers.

Hi! I'm a newbee too icon_biggrin.gif

CC is the best for EVERYTHING that has to do with cakes! I've learned soooo much. what really helped me were serious_cakes' videos on youtube. she tought me how to smooth frosting onto a cake, make perfect corners on a square cake, and buttercream roses all in one night! I'm not even on here as much as i'd like to be (i have a 3 yr old and 4 yr old so not much "me" time) but in the little time i do spend here, i learn a ton and walk away eager to try everything! i am yet to find that perfect buttercream recipe too so if you find one, let me know! i've tried lots of recipes that get a lot of good review that just dont work out for me so i actually think i'm eather doing something wrong, or am using the wrong brand of something! still trying to figure it out tho. well i hope you learn all you need to know here! good luck with your business!!!

Hi Froggymom! This place is awesome.... well some good news about your home decorating future ambitions! North Carolina is one of the few states you can get a legal Home cake business started so if you want to expand it is doable there....

I used to live in Greenville Nc (Eastern) Now I am in California ... No legal home business for me now!

IndyDebi's buttercream recipe is great. you can find it in the recipe section... some people love Sugarshacks recipe , i haven't been able to get her method to work for me yet. But some on here swear by it..

Just know that this is just the beginning of what will become a huge addiction.. When I should be doing laundry, cleaning, cooking, working on cars, fixing the roof.. I am on CC instead! icon_smile.gif
