Mud Pit Cake

I am making a "mud pit" cake complete with monster trucks. What should I use for the mud? I thought about crushed up oreos but that's more like dirt. Then I thought about chocolate pudding, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

I think chocolate buttercream sounds like a good idea! And then if you need the dirt, use the crushed oreo's like you said.
