I need to make a cake topper that is a 3-D heart standing up on it's side. I looked through 30 pages of heart cakes and only found one cake that came close. I PM'd them, but I need to get other ideas incase they don't respond. I need the heart to be the size of grapefruit/lg. orange and stand up on it's side so the heart is facing out toward you when you're looking at the cake. I don't know if I should try and carve a heart from cake or mold a heart from rice crispy treats? Either way, how do I successfully cover it in fondant and get it to stand up without crumbling? This is the main part of the cake that they customer has requested and I need it done by Saturday. Any help would be appreciated, I'm at a loss.

I personally would suggest you use RKT or the same stuff you would use to make cake balls. It take practice to cover the heart but I'm pretty sure it can be done covering it with the seams being hidden. Just try making the heart ahead of time so you will have time to practice.
