Hi there,

I'm relatively new to caking, and making cakes for everyine so i can practise. I'm making a bday cake for a lady in work and would love to try out my ball pan. (As it's a surprise and no one is paying i figure i can use the opportunity to play!)

Other than a teapot, does anyone have any suggestions?

Have made a chocolate devils food cake and frozen it, so i could just make a regular round cake.

Also, tips for getting the fondant to go on neatly would be appreciated! I have enough trouble with normal shaped cakes!

Thanks so much in advance.

How about a hat? You really only need 1/2 a ball for that. As far as covering with fondant if you just cover 1/2 a ball you may find it goes on very easy.

Yes, applying fondant to a ball shape is far easier than one with sharp corners.

Ball pan ideas:

apple
a 'puffy' fish
a grassy hill (decorate with flowers, butterflies, etc.)
pumpkin
lady bug
ice cream scoop (decorate with 'hot fudge' and cherry on top)
planet
