I went ahead and bought a yard of the vinyl sold at Walmart to use as a rolling mat and its GREAT!!!! It actually works better than my $10 WILTON one I bought when I took tha courses.

Before with the wilton ,if I used a metal cookie cutter on it, it would leave a mark.I bought the 3rd or 4th thickest one and I could use all the cutters I want and its still perfect.

Only downside is that if you use the measurements you dont get it with this so what I plan on doing is getting another wilton oneand placing it under this one. This was its protected.

The yard was $2.77 i believe. icon_biggrin.gifthumbs_up.gif

That's what I use, works great. I'm always pulling out the cloth measuring tape though. I guess that is the only down side.

Excellent Idea!! Thank you SOO much!! Does it stay down better and not curl on the edges? Is it heavier than the Wilton Mat?

Tha Wilton mat is nice with the measurements, but it moves around SOOO much and curls So bad that it drives me crazy!! I love the idea of putting the Wilton one under it. That way you have the best of both worlds!!

Thank you again,

Lauri

No problem!

I usually tape the corners down and have no problem. Its definitely heavier and thicker. I even find that my fondant sticks less on this. icon_cool.gif

I use the clear plastic from Wal-Mart also. Here's another tip when rolling out fondant. If you put another clear sheet on top of the fondant you can lift the piece right up and place it on your cake without having to roll it around your pin. It works so well. That's a clear sheet under the fondant and a clear sheet on top of the fondant.

Wipe your counter with a damp, not wet, cloth and lay the vinyl on it. The moisture will keep the mat from sliding. You can also place a damp paper towel underneath and the vinyl will not slide either.

Silly questions:
1) does the fondant pick up like that vinyl smell/taste?
2) how do you get the crease marks out of your vinyl?
