I have been trying to tint my royal icing black, brown and red but they are turning out more of a gray, tan and pink!!! Does it take an entire container of food coloring paste to get it right?

Thank you for any help that you can be on this matter!

It takes quite a bit. Keep adding!

I know what you mean about the colors, try small amounts. icon_wink.gif

I don't know about royal, but for buttercream when I need black I just use cocoa powder to make chocolate buttercream frosting- then I don't need to add much black food coloring bc the color is already deep brown.

I use Americolor colors and surprisingly need only a little to get deep dark colors. Never a whole bottle.
