I just made Antonia74 royal icing and like it very much, however, I tried dying it black and even bought Americolor super black as recommended on another thred but was only able to get a very dark grey.
Any suggestions? I didn't know if there was a way to make this recipe a chocolate royal icing and perhaps the black would take better?
Did you let the icing sit for several hours to allow the color to deepen? My black royal also starts out dark grey, darkens after a few hours and is totally black as night by the next day. I also use Americolor Super Black.
As an aside, you can most definitely add cocoa powder to royal (cookie) icing. That's what I use whenever I need a dark brown.
