Color Paste Or Powdered Food Color?

I will be coloring cake batter and want very bright intense colors. Is this possible with either option without affecting the consistency of the cake batter?

Oh and I will be using WASC if that makes a difference.

I've added paste color to WASC without any problems before. I've also added liquid food color...I just put the drops in the measuring cup then add the water so I'm not adding any extra liquid.
