I would like to try and make a sugar bottle. All the directions that I see say place the sugar and syrup in the microwave.... I don't have a microwave. So my question is

Can you melt the sugar and syrup in a double boiler and get the same results?

I believe you can cook it on top of the stove (don't think you need a double boiler) to a hard crack stage.
