Hi all,

This is my first time posting and glad I can come here for some help. I have a niece who just graduated from college with a degree in fashion design and I want to make her an amazing cake but not sure what it should be. I'm sure she would be impressed with a purse of some sort but I'd like to do something more fashion oriented. She wants to design clothes so if anyone has any ideas or pictures I could look at please let me know. I have about a month to do it but I need to make sure I can do it!

Thanks!

Lori

hhmmmm ok well i'll just thrown in a couple ideas and if you don't like them there it is always a bump icon_smile.gif

1. Maybe you can do a round/square single cake and ontop you can have a mannequin stand make out of fondant or gumpaste just plain or you can give it a nice fondant/gumpaste dress or you can actually dress it with a real piece of material

2. If you dress it with real material maybe you could take a pattern from it and do a design to match it on the actual cake at the bottom

-also maybe if she has already designed soemthing you can try and replicate that for the dress or use some material she as used in her studies on the cake for the dress/pattern on the cake

Here is 2 pics i have seen showing what i was thinking

These 2 are made out of cake but you can just do the torso like they have on the top on a stand and not make out of cake and then put the fondant dress on or just make it into a mannequin.

The easiest way would be to use the torso off a cheap barbie and cover it with fondant either black or the tan.

This sketch i found of a mannequin where you could do that in gumpaste but also have the curly wire at the bottom holding it up, that would look nice:

3. If not, for decorations on a cake think what fashion designers use eg measuring tapes, pin cushions, pens, sketches etc stuff like that

....i'm so sorry i got a bit carried away with all the typing icon_eek.gif but also hope it makes sense LOL

HTH in some way lol icon_smile.gif

How about painting some designs on the cake of sketches of dresses. You could even do the cake in black and white and do the sketches in black. If you are doing a tiered cake, you could make an Eiffel tower for the top to make the whole thing French looking. Maybe wide black ribbons and bows on the bottom of each tier.

Here is a photo of some sketches......

Great ideas! I actually have a picture of one of the outfits that she designed and I think I could make the mannequin and duplicate the outfit. Her clothing line theme was jailhouse fashions which was all black and white. I will try it and post a picture when its done. Thanks a bunch!
