So I was whipping up a quick batch of cupcakes this am for my hubby's work. I am putting a 1G (big star) tip into my icing bag, go to push it down in and push my finger right through the darn thing! I couldn't pull my finger back out because the points were caught in my skin and it would only dig deeper if I pulled on it. Oh my Lord, THE PAIN!!! I managed to hang onto consciousness long enough to grab a pair of needle nose pliars and pull the points away to get my finger out. That must be what a bear caught in a trap feels like.

RULE OF THUMB (or index finger)

DO NOT USE YOU FINGERS TO PUSH YOUR TIPS INTO THE BAG!!!!!

lol

I am such a dork! icon_biggrin.gif rofl

I'm glad you're OK now but that just really made me laugh trying to picture that. Way to funny, I can't stop laughing. Thanks for the warning, I could see myself doing that & I guess that's why I think it's so funny.

First of all, I was absolutely cringing when I was reading your story -- I'm so glad you're okay!!!

Tell your mom that you're not the only caking klutz!! I threw my back out decorating cookies last month. icon_redface.gif I was in big pain for 2 weeks, never knowing what had caused it. Then, just this Monday, I started to decorate cookies at my counter. After about an hour, my back began hurting in exactly the same place as before. That's when I realized what had happened!

Now you know how a hooked fish feels. icon_lol.gif

Glad you thought of the pliers. I'll have to remember that, in case I do the same thing (heck, you just never know, do you?).

OWIEEEEEEE!!!!! Oh man, I can't even imagine how bad that must have hurt.

Here's another bit of advice: if you buy a soda from a vending machine and the bottle/can gets stuck inside, don't shove your arm all the way up to your elbow in there trying to get it out. Don't ask me how I know this. icon_redface.gif

I'll never forget the day that my sister got her hand hung up in the beaters of our stand mixer. This was years ago - we were both kids. The mixer had two beaters ... I don't know what she was doing, but all of a sudden they locked up TIGHT with her fingers twisted up between them. It's not funny, but I certainly laughed at the time!! icon_smile.gif

Yep, I've been there, really painful and shocking as well, you wouldn't believe it'll hurt that bad.

I've done the same thing too. It's good to know there are other people out there like me. Maybe we should all join a support group for klutzy cake decorators.

"My name is Alicia and I cut myself on a bag of bavarian cream today"

P.S. don't ask me how I did it, I'm still not sure. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

I actually did this same thing in a tip a while back. Pliers came to my rescue too. There was blood all over my index finger! It hurt for days!

OMG - that made my stomach flip a few times!

Glad to hear you finally got your finger out.

I had this problem from the OTHER direction, so to speak--I have no idea what I was doing, but I recall suddenly having the tip embedded in my fingertip!

It hurt, but I've had worse--sewing machine needle through the fingertip--so I just picked it out and got a bandaid...

Owch! sounds really painful!!! i wonder why i become accident prone when im doing a cake? ,

i was cutting some fondant strips the other day with my craft knife, Lovley white smooth fondant . . Yeah you guessed it, i sliced my finger open, blood all over the fondant (dont worry, it went in the bin!! )
and varika, ive done the excact same thing, with a denim needle on the sowing machine, ended up in accident and emergancy for four hours before they removed it!!!

Heh. I guess I'm tough or something, because all I did was snip the thread and pull the needle out myself. And swore a lot over totally ruining the dress or whatever it was. It wasn't too terrible as an injury, though; I didn't go anywhere near bone, though I did pierce the nail bed of my fingernail.

Ouch Ouch Ouch .. tips, sewing needles, stand mixers Oh My! So glad I am not the only one to hurt myself on seemingly harmless things. Glad everyone is ok.

eeeewwww! I have the shivers from it all. The worse I had happen was slicing my finger open on the foil from the yogurt. icon_eek.gif You would never believe how deep it cut! I will never put my hand in a bag again. I can't imagine how that must hurt. It is like that thing from the movie, Da Vinci Code.
