Can anyone tell me when using a ball tool on gumpaste to soften the edges of a rose petal do you place it half on the gumpaste half on the pad or entirely on the edge of the paste?

Place it half on the gumpaste and half on the sponge pad.

I put the tool on half the gumpaste and half the pad...unless I want more of the edge softened, then I go into the gumpaste more.

hi i also do it about 1/2 and 1/2 and i'll take the tool and either drag softly from the middle down or put the ball in the middle and press a little and can curl after i do the edges

I tell my students "put more ball on the pad then the paste. IMO, I like to just skim that blunt edge of the paste so you don't get a harsh edge. You are softening the edge.
