they are just 2-14inch cake bases and 2-12inch cake bases I got mine at walmart and I think they were around 6 bucks each for a pack of two!! I would say that after I payed for all my supplies for it, that it only cost me 20-25 bucks to make and best of all I can just take everything off since I just used double stick tape and start over with another theme!!!
Wow, Salsaman42, that's beautiful! What did you use between the glass? It almost looks like cut crystal...
the bases are round glass candle plates with purchased silicone "feet" epoxied on, the columns are 2 glass votive candleholders and the plates are 1/4 inch plate glass I had cut and edges pencil ground. Everything is joined together with clear silicone. The plates start at 7 inches square and get bigger in 2 inch multiples, 9", 11", 13", 15"
Wow...you people are amazing!
kileyscakes...I don't mean to sound dense, but when you say cakebase, what do you mean? I've stared at the photo(s), but I can't tell what it's made of...it looks shiny on top?
Here's mine:
Foam board from Michaels, paper cup center and coordinating ribbon.

My friend and I even made one from pink plastic margarita glasses and lime green plastic plates for a party. The ones with plates and vases or glasses are really fun and creeative.
Is there a way to make it with the styrafoam circles and attach it so its secure but also easy enough to redecorate with different paper? I don't really want to glue the paper down all the way so I can use it again with different themes. Any suggestions?
Mine's about 8 years old and I've only used it a couple times, but I'm bringing it out for a party in a few weeks. Martha Stewart had a similar one then, but was rather pricey, so I picked out the pieces @ Michael's and my dad made this one for me. I can't seem to find a pic with cupcakes on it, so it's "naked". (please ignore the mess on the table, I've been baking, lol)

I remember seeing a video on youtube on how to make you own cupcake stand. I'm gonna search for the link, I'm sure i have it somewhere.
Thanks for sharing all the pictures. I'll be making one later on in the year for a wedding.
What exactly is foam core board, and where would I find it?? Does it come in rounds or must it be cut?
I buy foam core at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. It comes in large sheets and does have to be cut. I use it for cakeboard with my tiered cakes because it is much stronger than cardboard.
All of the cupcake stands are so nice! I feel inspired to make one myself. Is the foam core board with the painting supplies at Michael's? It's definitely not in the cake section.
The foamcore is on the same isle as the wrapping paper/gift bag supplies in my Michaels. They also have some on the end cap of the paint isle. It comes in lots of colors, but the white is the cheapest. You can usually get it on sale for $0.99 a sheet. Just ask a sales associate if you can't find it, they will know what you are talking about. Good luck!!
All these stands are sooo cute! My mind is going crazy trying to figure out which one to make for myself. Whats the easiest way to cut the foam core board?
