Hi! I need a template for a mortar board. I know the top is a basic square but the portion that fits on the head is what I am trying to figure out. I dont want to just do a cylinder.

for deco for top of cake:

pick a bowl the size of the "head" you want to put it on (could be any round shape -- even a tennis ball cut in half -- or if you have one, the mini half-ball pans.

drape fondant/gumpaste on it and then trim to get the shape you like and allow to harden in place.

if use a bowl, the flat bottom will make attaching the square board all that much easier.

----

now if you want a cake that looks like the hat ...

then bake the cake in a glass or metal bowl.

(ditto to making it easy to attach the board)
