I am making a cake the bottom tier will be 8 inches that flairs out, on top of that a ball then a top hat on top of that. Any ideas of how to assemble this? I have a few ideas i'm throwing around but would like to get some more suggestions! Thanks!

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean.In my understanding you mean by: 8 inch cake under a ball cake and then hat cake on top.

If you are going to make the whole thing out of cake, I would suggest buidling a stand for it. If you check my photos, you can see my 2nd fondant cake. Make a smaller version of the stand I used and then start from there. The top plate would support your hat and the bottom tier with the ball on top of it would cover the pole.
