The butterflies are just like making the bows and flowers, you just use the butterfly gelatin mat (pm me and I will tell you where to get it) or you can try to free cut them out of the gelatin after it has dried. I don't know about Kosher gelatin, I would think it would work.

Thanks guys! I used ya'lls techniques to make a cake. Not gelatin bows, but a Halloween/ Friday the 13th cake. Haha I used it to make blood and water!. The "water" was done by painting gelatin out onto the back of a 6 in. cake pan with a can of Pam on it (to make a hole for Jason to be popping up out of.. in the movies he kills a lot of people in the lakes)

The water was laying flat until I accidentally put it in front of a fan, it curled right up. But it was ok because it makes the water look like it was rippling and bloodier.

hey was wondering if anyone has found a way to flavour them yet?

Aussie - take a look into this thread and you'll see where we used flavored SugarFree Jello to make these. It works fine but I can't see anyone eating these except some children.

I don't know if this has been asked before but can you use this to make diamonds. I have a diamond ring mold that I would like to use and was wondering if I this would work and if I could paint the band? Thanks guys! icon_smile.gif

Newbie here. I've read almost all of the 55 pages of this thread and, although it was very frustrating at first, eventually most of my questions were answered. However:
What is a bump?
What is a sticky and where do you find it?
Could somebody post somewhere a glossary for all of the acronyms? Some I figured out, but..... HTH? others?
I'm puzzled by "here is a picture of..." and there is no picture or link and I don't see it by clicking on the Photos button. What's up with that? Is there a picture archive somewhere for just this thread?
I'm looking forward to trying this technique.

Hi Shanter! Welcome to CC!! If there's anything we can answer for you, just ask, that's what we're here for.

A "bump" is when a thread (like this one) is overlooked by more popular threads, someone will type "bump" to bump it up to the top of the list so to speak. Jackie doesn't like it when that's done, and "save" is another pet peeve, so we try to make a comment which does the same thing. (I hope that made sense.) icon_biggrin.gif

A sticky is a thread that will not move -- in other words, it won't get moved to the bottom of the list. If you look in my signature, the top one, called "the recipe links are here" is a sticky in the forums.

The acronyms are here: http://forum.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2926&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=0

I'm not sure what's up with the pix, there's been a lot of gliches in the forum lately and that's one of them.

Other than that, welcome!! icon_biggrin.gif Oh, HTH means "hope that helps". icon_biggrin.gif

Can someone explain to me how the bubbles are made with balloons...having trouble visualizing the whole thing....

Let's start with a blown up water balloon....So I crisco or PAM the outside of the balloon???.....I then paint on the gelatin....then what?????? How do I get the balloon out of the way?????

TIA

That's a whole 'nother process. It's in the Gelatin Bubbles thread.

What do you use vodka for in the process of making gelatin flowers?

bobwonderbuns Posted 4 Jan 2011 , 1:14am

When you are making things like carnations or flowers with petals that curve, spritz with vodka and that allows the dried gelatin to become pliable enough to curl but not break.
