I am making red gumpaste roses for a wedding cake. But I need to make them a little darker than regular red. Can someone tell me what color petal dust I can use to give them a little bit of a darker hue? I was thinking perhaps a brown - is that right? I don't want them maroon, just a little darker red.

Any help would be so much appreciated.

I would use black...I do that with my airbrush all the time....to deepen a shade. I did a red cowboy hat that after getting the red on I added some black and it really intensified the color. Just a drop....with the dusts maybe you could mix some on your brush and see how it looks. Also, if you deepen the inside of the petals it will give them depth.

maybe a slightly burgandy colour, maybe mixed with some red? or you might get lucky and find a 'dark red' dust.

I brush mine with Kiko Red (ECG) after they have dried, or you can use American Beauty (I think that's an ECG color too but can't remember).
