Hi All,

For those of you who use wire to embelish your cakes. What gauge wire do you use and where do you buy it?

Thanks

Kathy

I use 20 gauge wire, I buy it at Walmart and Micheals. I think I have also used 22 gauge wire.

I used wire from Joann's - floral wire. I think it was 18 or 20 gauge...that being said, I'm no expert, but from what info I gathered from the pros on CC, it worked. I inserted the wire into a plastic drinking straw and filled in w melted chocolate so it would stay, then inserted into cake. From what I've read, you cannot insert wire directly into the cake b/c it's not food safe. (the pink gymnastics cake in my photos is the one I did, and also the bird on the Diego cake)
You may be able to get away with a smaller gauge wire if using fondant on the ends...I did chocolate, so it was heavier...
Good luck! HTH! icon_smile.gif
