Flower Help-Super Newbie Question

Can anyone tell me why I can't seem to get smooth edges on my flower petals? they always have a jagged/cracked edge. I'm not sure if this is an issue with my icing or technique. I'm using a basic buttercream recipie.

my guess would be that your icing is too stiff.

Ditto...the icing is too thick and you're probably squeezing too hard because of it.

Try adding just a touch of liquid or corn syrup.
Personally I like the raggedy edges, but then I'm a little strange - I like the little weepy drops on a lemon meringue pie too.
