I am going to attempt to make my first set of figures, babies to be exact, for a baby shower cake. Should I use fondant, gumpaste, or a mixture of both?

I like a 50-50 mixture...gumpaste for stability and fondant for some more flexibilty when molding.

I like to mix them together. Gum paste helps the fondant to dry faster also.

I add fondant depending on the gumpaste I am using. Some gumpastes are perfect consistency but if it's too dry I add fondant as needed.
