What's the best way to secure the cake to the cake board? I've only used icing, but when my cake gets tilted, it doesn't hold in place for too long. Is corn syrup better?
I have never had a problem using buttercream to secure the cake to the board. It may be that you are using to little, or maybe too much
Here are some example images of about how much I use when preparing a cake board for a 9" round cake
Make sure you spread it on the board with a spatula or palette knife. I have seen some people just pipe or glob it on, which I don't think works well.

Well I'm completely stupid! I never thought of putting something on the board to keep cake there.... I never have.... I dont seem to have a problem with it though either, I do 9x13s usually, maybe thats why? But now that this was brought to my attention I will have to!!!!!!!!! Thanks!
Being pretty new to this, I have to ask: What is the reason for needing to secure the cake to the board? You said for tilting it, but tilting it for what? Decorating it? Taking pictures of it? Something else I'm not thinking of, I assume?

All of those reasons plus transporting it. Some cakes slide, some don't. When you get one that does , you'll be icing under all of them from then on.
Thank you for explaining. All I've traveled with so far are cookies and cupcakes, so this is a good thing to know ahead of time!
I even glue my individually decorated cupcakes to the board to keep those from sliding during travel!!
