Question About Wilton Cake Plate

I am making a tired cake with pillars. For the bottom cake I willo be using a 16 in. plate for the base with a 12 in. cake on it. I was washing up the plate today. I notice it has some give in it. Do you think it is strong enough so that it will not give and crack my icing? Does that makes sense?

Add a foil covered cardboard to the plate for added strength.
