Cake In A Loaf Pan?

I have an order for a train cake. Would it be better to bake in a loaf pan and carve from that or just bake in a regular pan, stack and carve. She wants the cars about loaf pan size. If I do the loaf pan, how long does it have to bake? Any ideas appreciated. icon_smile.gif

I use the Wilton "long loaf pan" with a pound cake recipe. I just bake at 325 degrees until a skewer comes out clean. I think it is usually about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Once it has cooled, I decide what I want my dimensions to be and then cut it, stack it,dowel it and decorate it. I LOVE to do these little train cakes.
