I have been asked to do a baby block cake to feed 70 people, which to me has to be alot of blocks. so i decided to put blocks on top of a sheet cake. There are 6 blocks to spell out a name each black 4"x4".

My question is do I need to use a cake board underneath each iced block and do I dowel the stack with normal dowels as cake quite small.

Please help me.

I would put each block on a cakeboard and use 4 skewers (not dowels) underneath each. I know it's overkill but a 4" block would weigh too much to just set on top of the sheet cake without slowly sinking into the frosting below. Pain in the tush but guaranteed not to sag!
