I want to try a TT cake, but I need to use buttercream. I understand the basics of construction of a TT, but I'm stumped as to how and when to do all the smoothing of the buttercream. Should I let each tier crust and smooth each tier separately before stacking, or should I put the tiers together and then try to do the smoothing..

I will appreciate any advice.

BTW, I WILL be using Indydebi's (miracle) buttercream!

I have done 2 TT cakes the last couple of weeks, and both were buttercream. I iced and smoothed each layer seperately then stacked them. Make sure to cut the holes a tad bigger than your plate (I used BKeiths's method here on CC)- I learned that with the first one. It works out just fine.
