I am looking for good cake recipies that don't actually require cake mixes. I have recently moved to Asia and the box mixes are CRAZY expensive. I was wondering if anyone has good recipes they can recommend. I never made a cake from scratch because the mixes were so good and easy. I would doctor them up sometimes to make them just a little better but now I can't bring myself to pay what they want for the mixes here. Instant pudding is also just as pricey, another one of my staple ingredients. I might have to stop doing cakes but I don't want to. Can anyone help me?

Thanks,

Natt

Natt i live in asia, and i understand how you feel.

i grew up watching my mom bake from scratch, never knew the existence of box mixes until i went to the states to do my bachelor's.

i came back wanting to bake from mix, i found out wow they cost a bomb here!

so i started learning to bake from scratch, and am still doing so after 10 yrs. scratch baking isn't hard, once you get the hang of it.
