I think the OP was not enjoying herself very much at this wedding and the egg shells were just the "icing on the cake". Normally, people would be too drunk to notice eggshells in a cake at a fun wedding. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

(that was intended to be humorous)

Anyway, if it were me (always trying to help people) in OP's position, I would hint around to the MIL on the "proper" way to crack eggs as being on a flat surface and not on the side of the bowl. Problem solved. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Or maybe she's a shop owner and is tired of the "home bakers". I'm a 2 year home baker recently turned shop owner and have nothing but love for the home bakers. If someone came to my shop and said they found eggshell in their cake I'd tell them "oops our bad.......we do use real eggs you know". Only since I've been hearing from the local distributors that all their mixes don't even require eggs. It just doesn't feel like I'm baking if I'm not there cracking tons of eggs everyday icon_smile.gif

I'm putting my money on the angry husband theory....I know mine was ready to strangle me today when I woke up and squealed saying, "Today is the day!" He perks up and says "What is today?" I say "Today is the day of the final cake challenge!" He groaned and hit me with the pillow and said, "Seriously, is CAKE all you ever think about???"

Agreed. I've seen her posts before too and don't think this was intentional pot stirring thread at all.

BTW all4cake you had me rotflmao with the curly hair remark!
icon_lol.gif

had myself rotflmao as well...then...I gagged thinking of one getting tangled around the uvula after taking a big ol' bite of a decadent chocolate cake...shnikers! ugh!

Oyyyy, you sound just like me. I've been telling DH that I'm not to be disturbed today during the FN challenge.

The re-runs started 5 minutes ago. There all going to be on back to back today. 1st one of the 4 just started.

You've really opened up a can of worms on this thread. Think before you post. Just a suggestion.

I know and DH is going to come in any minute and I will have to go fencing with him! Not the cool kind with pointy swords either, the not-fun kind with splinters and barbed wire! I want to be home posting and watching cake challenge!!!!

Did you read her posts about the costco wedding.

Yeah the Costco wedding one was kind of mean...she would've hated my wedding - it was an Ebay wedding!!!

The OP posts here fairly regularly and her posts generally aren't ones that would be considered inflamatory.
I wonder if someone else wrote that logged in under her name?
jJst trying to give her the benefit of the doubt.

And I am a homebaker, btw.

Question about recycled food -- what about stuff in packets? E.g. they give you 5 ketchup packets and you only used 2. Or they give you a butter pat in it's own closed containter but you don't use it. Can that be recycled? I always think they should, but wonder if it is allowed?

I feel recycled packed sauces are better than recycle ribs or steak, the previous customer might have licked it ,b4 deciding he didn't want it. Yumm other peoples spit. icon_twisted.gif
Where is Jamie with her freaky foods now eh. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Don't know about that stuff...but don't EVER eat the pickle served on the side of your sandwich.

They're one of the first to be recycled because so many people ignore them. I've seen many a pickle swiped off a plate as it was headed for the trash (back in my waitressing days). who knows how many different hands and plates the poor little pickle saw before yours? ew.

I worked in a restaurant (for a very short time) where the owner reamed me out for throwing leftover rolls and breads in the garbage; including those that had a bite out of them. ( He said those could be used for croutons)

I just got sneakier. I still threw them out, poured water on them and covered them up with paper napkins. I think I lasted about 2 months there if I remember right. When you feel you have to brown bag it when you work in a food establishment, it's time to leave.

ok, ew

I've worked in many restaurants, in none of them did we ever do that. We weren't allowed to recycle anything that a guest had sitting at their plate, it all had to go in the ttrash

Yikes, well I've learned something new. I generally pick up the pickle first and crunch down on it. No more. This has been a great thread though inspite of the post topic.

not anti-climactic at all. I don't think I'll ever eat another restaurant pickle again. tapedshut.gif

Yes, you would hope that any dining establishment would throw out ANY leftovers. Almost makes you afraid to eat out. It's been years and years since I worked in a restaurant, but I'm still afraid of pickles.
Also, my dad has a huge pet peeve about fast food places dumping the ketchup packets directly on top of your fries. Valid point, if you think about it.

yeah, I should have guessed that one.. As much as I love salads, I stay away from salad bars.. "sneeze" guards are a waste. Somehow I find it easier on the pallette if I don't have to see what happens to the veggies before I devour them... icon_rolleyes.gif
