Can someone tell me if it is safe to put floral wire directly into the cake? I have noticed a lot of pictures where it appears that the wire is inserted into the cake? Is this florist wire or something special for cakes?

I re cently learned (thanks to a discussion on this site that wires should NOT be inserted directly into cake. Put straws or coffee stir sticks into the cake and insert the wires into them.

I found these great lollipop sticks that I put the wires in then put them in the cake. They're plastic and hollow. I've been told its especially important if the filling is acidic like lemon.

Wilton makes lollipop sticks that are hollow plastic. You can get them just about anywhere-even Wal-Mart.

Thank you for the responses. I am pretty new to the decorating thing and still learning a lot. I will try the lollipop sticks.
