Any suggestions on the proper way to freeze the top tier of the wedding cake?

I tell my brides to not do it .. I tell them to serve the top tier, call me in a year and I'll try to duplicate the top tier for them.... there is no way I'd eat anything that's been in a freezer for a year lol

I'm a bit of a traditionalist and wanted to save my top teir. I didn't think it would be any good but it was!! It tasted almost as good as our wedding day.
Here's what I did: took it out of the box, wrapped it in heavy duty tin foil (not so tight that it mushed everything) Then wrapped it in a couple layers of saran wrap, then another layer of foil and put it back in the box. I repeated this about every 2 months until our anniversary! I'm embarassed to say we ate the whole thing! icon_redface.gif

Well, I froze my daughter's cake top... I first placed it in the freezer til almost frozen solid...
Then I tripple wrapped it in saran wrap.
Then aluminum foil..
Then stuck it in the cake box she purchased. It also was plastic lined with heavy plastic. Twisted that and tied it..put the lid on it and voila..
Hope this helps you...
The cake was still good too...they didn't eat the whole thing...it was just the 2 of them...

this is basically what i do...

freeze until almost solid
wrap numerous times in saran wrap
place in ziploc freezer bag
place in cake box
wrap the box in numerous layers of saran wrap
