Okay, Dawn, that jungle cake is jaw-dropping fantastic! Your cookies have always been works of art, and the cake provided a wonderful back-drop and highligthed them to perfection. Gorgeous!!!
ziggytarheel, yes they are beautiful, and I agree flourgirl is very talented.
I live somewhere very hot and most cakes have to go in the fridge, even mud cakes.
Maybe it will grow on me. It is all down to personal taste.
When I do cakes that are going to be eaten by mostly kids, I try to use cookies as decoration. Would hate to have to tell a kid whos asking for the decoration "well, its gumpaste. technically , it's edible BUT.."
If you look at my cakes, The Ed hardy tattoo is cookie, and so is the Elmo haunted house. For the sleepover cake, I did the headboard out of cookie and dipped it in pink chocolate.
Dawn, that cake is just adorable! .... and it is your cookies that made it so! SO cute!
Beenzee - Oh, you are creative! I love what you did with the cookies and cakes. That sleepover cake is precious! Such talent!
Cookies on cakes! Never even thought about it, now I'm going to have to try it! Talking about doing things all edible for kid's cakes...I saw somewhere on the web where a guy uses candy to make decorations. Like bubblegum for flowers, I thought it was really neat so I made a flower from Bubblicious gum and it came out Great! I'll have to post a pic of it.
i saw those bubble gum roses before. i've always wanted to try them in my spare time(yeah like i have spare time)

kneadacookie, that cake is absolutely adorable!
sara91, I think the cupcakes with the cookie toppers are fantastic, especially for children, how fun for them they get 2 sweets in 1.

ok gang..you've inspired me! My oldest daughter is having her birthday in early May (she lives in Chicago) and I told her that I wanted to make her a cake and send it with a friend driving there to help her celebrate. I've been trying and trying to decide what to make for her and since I'm def. not a cake person at least I'll feel confident with the cookie decorations. What a great idea! I'll be sure to let you know what I come up with. Thanks to everyone that shared their fab. pics.
Kneadacookie (luv your name) - here's a different link for bubble gum roses:

Thanks for your help.
Ok...WOW Gemini and kenadacookie, those cakes are GREAT!! After this thread, I think this is what I'm going to to do for my son's 1st b-day cake. The party decor has cupcakes and teddybears, and I have those cutters...(must be fate)! I do have one question.....How do you get the cookies to stick to the side of the cake when there is only a cake board underneath? Do you just put a drop of butter cream on the back? Any tips would be greatly apprecieated.

The buttercream I use doesn't crust, so it was very easy to just gently push the cookie onto the cake. For crusting BC, I'd put a dab of icing on the back of the cookie and press onto the cake. The drink cookies I used were tall enough that they just tilted slightly toward the cake.
