I am making a cake in the form of ballet slippers for a friend, and have scoured the internet looking for a template or pattern to use to cut the cake with and have found nothing. I am afraid to do it freehand. Any help would be appreciated.

There was a cake a while back on CC with pink toeshoes on it that looked absolutey real. The gal who made them said she took pink fondant and put them into sausages, then hollowed them out and put a bow on them. Beautiful!!

my plan is to make the cake look like the shoes, I don't really have much luck with fondant and my molding skills have never been great.

I made a ballet slipper cake. I used a 13x9 pan, cut it lengthwise down the middle, froze it, shaved away for the roundness, refroze it, iced it in bc, and added mmf laces. I couldn't add the picture, however it is in my photos. How I managed that, I will never know. Hope this helps.
