I posted a couple of days ago about my huge frustration when I mounted soft cake layers on a stiffer filling, and the thing ended up bulging. I was SO STINKING MAD!!! I came downstairs the next morning, and found it looking all ugly. It was already covered with fondant and it was pretty set, so it wasn't like I could just go back and go over it again to straighten it. My husband kept insisting nobody would care because it was for my friends and they don't do cakes anyway, but it looked sloppy and I was really mad.
I ended up adding a wavy yellow strip to the top (of course I did! Why else do I ever add bows or appliques of any sort to my cakes? ) and it actually covered the bulging pretty well. I turned the thing in this morning, and all was fine ... dark chocolate fudge cake, with peanut butter-chocolate pudding filling with milk chocolate and peanut butter chips, peanut butter buttercream, and MFF. Have a looksie!

Great save! I would never had known you had issues if you hadn't mentioned it!
I'm sure your friends loved it!

Such a cute cake! Love the colors! And you can't see anything wrong with it!!!! Good job!!!!!
What a beautiful cake!!! You say you had problems with it??? Way to go. I would have never guessed.
Now that is one very pretty cake -
So glad to read and see that it turned out so beautiful for you /
Its a sinking feeling isn't it when *something* goes wrong and we go blank thinking WHAT DO I DO NOW -
ps - love the snaps -

Thanks so much, guys! I was surprised by what a difference the yellow strip made (although I can't really justify it in the design ). I'll still be sure to go more slowly with my stacking next time I a) use this softer cake recipe and b) decide to lay the filling on so very thick.
Happy Easter to everyone!
