I need to make a wrestling cake. What would be the best thing to use for the ropes? I will use fondant covered dowels for the poles in the corners unless someone has a better idea. TIA icon_smile.gif

I think that fondant mixed with gum-tex would work. Mix the gum-tex with your fondant and roll them out in the thickness and length that you like. Be sure to pre-pair them a night or two before you plan to decorate your cake to allow them to get hard. You can paste the ropes to your post with royal icing or fondant glue. You can also cover your seams with another strip of fondant like a real ring. I looked on line and saw a ring with a red, white, and blue rope. Each post was colored red, white, or blue as well. Just an idea.

How about shoestring licorice? Aren't the ropes in wrestling colored anyway? Attach with some Royal or if their not eating (and you're sure) use a glue gun.

You can also attach the ropes(licorice) with candy melts. Quick dry time while you hold it.
