But those articles are soooooooo informative! I think that will be a new career choice for me.
1. Save money on flowers - drive down highway on the way to the ceremony and pick the nature given freebies. Always in style!
2. The dress is really an overpriced piece of material. Buy a bolt of fabric, gracefully wrap around yourself. You can always have your MOB bedazzle the heck out of it once it is in place if you so desire. Just recycyle those projects you made in the 80s! Going green while walking down memory lane is always good. You now have something old and something new.
3. Invitations may set the tone for your wedding, but seriously, people just throw them away. Print up some pretty little flyers like a Rave Party. They will work just the same.
4. Have a potluck meal reception. Pick out only the finest china you will want, send your guest the piece they are to purchase for you and what they are to fill it with for your reception. You would not want them to forget the gift while they are busy getting your dish prepared.
5. The cake. Everyone knows the most important part of the reception is the cake cutting ceremony. Hotess has always been there for you along with Little Debbie and various other brands. Serve twinkies, dingdongs, ho hos, snowballs, whatever your favs are. Make sure they are all cut in half as the 50 cents a person is WAY to much. You can always try the thrift bakeries for an even better deal.
OMG, I think I should start planning red neck wedding and go in business w/ Tom Arnold!
LOL "and remember Evite is you friend". If your wedding list exceeds 50 people, it can get quite costly to print out invitations on your computer. Just make sure that the nursing home where uncle Bob is has an email address where you can send his invitation.
To save money on a DJ, just put all your fave songs in your I-Pod. If you don't have one, you can always buy one from Walmart and return it the next day.
Place card shmashe cards. It is much more fun and entertaining for the guests to play musical chairs. You can save a lot of money by cutting down on chair rentals.
Now, of course you need a venue, and this will be a costly one, so please make sure to pay by check so that you can stop payment on the day of the wedding. They won't find out until the next day when it is over. By then you will be on your honeymoon, just make sure that you are somewhere where you cannot be extradited.
The only thing that would top this off (aside from hearing juicy details about the reception) is if the bride found this thread.
Please! Please! I was thinking the same thing. I know that's awful, but I was actually hoping for it! Or evil MOB! That would be even better maybe? I feel awful saying it, but man, it would rule!
MaryJ'sG, We require a herd of drama lamas.
Carol.. she brought the bottom tier to the venue the day after the wedding on her way to her friend's wedding... not before the problem wedding.
I agree that it was tacky to put the walmart boxes out at the venue, but that wasn't the fault of the OP. And yes... had the questions been referred to the MOB and bride... they would have been trashing dsevans up and down. Not sure how it could have been handled to assure that the decorator wasn't unjustly accused and trashed and kept it on the up and up. At least it wasn't her idea to do so though.
venue rep just told people the truth when they asked about the cakes whereabouts....
Carol says: It would have been more appropriate had he/she just said the cake had not arrived and refer them to the bride or mob with their questions. For the venue rep to be spreading the word of what had transpired is just wrong. They shouldn't be involving themselves any further than the services they are providing under their business contract with their client. That does not include gossiping about the client's personal business.
I'm glad somebody else picked up on this point. When I first read it I thought "Man, that's unprofessional of that venue rep to do that"
Between that and the bank worker making that phone call alerting of the *Stop Payment*, I've been scratching my head.
I've heard of having friends in the industry, but to compromise their own jobs by doing what these 2 did, makes me wonder.
Unless the bank is a 1 branch "local yocal" bank, an employee usually has to follow protocol in this situation, which would have been issuing a letter to the acct. holder, not personally phoning her.
My DH is a VP at a bank so I've heard a lot of *bank stories*. When I first read this post to him his first reaction was "That employee crossed the line as far as the bank is concerned".
Both parties involved are acct holders at this bank and should be treated equally. Just because she personally knew the OP, was she right in phoning her? I tend to think that's not bank policy.
I mean why not tell the bride, *sorry, we can't stop payment, it's been paid already* and leave it at that. I mean if they're not going to follow protocol this would have been the perfect opportunity to not follow it.
Also as far as the bank filing a fraud investigation on the bride. Didn't they kind of set her up for it? They should not have processed the *stop payment* the money was already taken from her acct and put in the OP's acct. I would think their 5 day policy (like NSF) would not apply when they can verify the funds since the check writer is also an acct holder there at that same bank.
I think the bank will have some explaining to do. I can hear it now......
defense attorney......"How did you know there was a *stop payment* placed on the check?"
OP......"My friend at the bank phoned me after the bride called the bank to have the *stop payment* processed"
defense attorney to the bank rep........" Do you phone all your acct holders when a *stop payment* is issued on one of their deposited checks?"
bank rep.........."No, only the ones we're friends with"
Judge............"Case dismissed"
As much as we're grateful for the bank employee making that phone call and saving the OP from delivering that cake....I don't think this will go very far because of the way it was found out. Just too many holes in this one.
And pictures .... let's not forget an article to suggest the bride take her own pictures ..... I mean if she can make her own cake, and bring her own food, why not take her own pics?
question ~ "Who takes this woman...?"
answer ~ The police!!!
Bwhahahahahaha!!

I'm not really seeing that vendor lady was tacky about the boxes. She's clearly dealing with a criminal and an enabler of a criminal (JailBaitBride and MobZilla). Vendor lady could end up in the verbal sh*tcan at the reception for her part in aiding our op.
She does do them a favor in getting the cakes. It's not up to her to make it pretty for 'em. She's already gone above and beyond the call of duty. I mean her job is not as a wedding planner but at least to help host the event for the venue. That's where the cakes should go is on the cake table.
I would hate to have my cake in the kitchen due to potential heat issues.
Vendor lady was not tacky in my estimation she was awesome.

(
There have been numerous posts in this threads from folks who work in banking stipulating what the employee did was not job threatening. Many banks call their clients to alert them of a check problem, followed up by a letter in the mail. How do you know that "bank policy" isn't to alert the client by phone if the check is over a certain amount, and then follow up with a letter? To assume that only "Mayberry" banks do this is a little elitist ..... thank god the OP banks with a bank who remembers their clients are more than just a number.
Hubby also tells me stores in which a bank VP would chew him out because someone in one of hubby's branches didn't do some special favor for the VP's buddy ..... until hubby points out proper bank protocal and how the bank acted properly under bank policy. I have no idea what dept your hubby is in, but based on things I heard from hubby and others, loan VP's and Trust VP, etal, are not always clear on how Operations should be run.
There have also been threads in which the "it's already been paid" issue was addressed in which "bank policy" is that a stop payment can be issued up to 5 days ... whether it's paid or not.

Dude, none of this negates the fact that JailBaitBride criminally screwed the op.
Just because the bank called her instead of snail mailing her --that alone will de-criminalize the bride's intent and clear felonious actions?
OK ladies (& gents) to add grist to the mill:
Let's substitute "wedding dress" for "wedding cake."
Get that picture?

As for the holes, I am going to play devil's advocate here. I know I will probably get totally flamed on this BUT!
Have any of you looked at Dsevans profile? Her website is an event planner's website with no mention of an owner's name. There are only 2 cakes shown on her site and they are of birthday cakes and very amature looking at that. Further the ONE AND ONLY cake photo she has in her CC gallery is of a complete disaster! None of these cakes even remotely resemble the amount of expertise the cake she showed in this thread as the cake she did for the bad bride. I don't know guys, but as for "holes" in the story, I think there are a lot more than meets the eye!
There are several inconsistancies with her story. I mean I hope she was being truthful with all this, but the fact that the cakes are SO DIFFERENT in ability, and the fact that it was a huge stacked tiered cake that she supposedly disassembled to give to other entities is a bit strange to me.
I know if the MOG had called me to say I will give you the $550 in cash please just bring the cake, I would have been there to deliver it regardless of how late the hour as by that time I am sure the guests would have learned as to why the cakes wasn't yet set up, because the MOG would have made sure they knew, and at that point who cares that the reception is already underway, I know the attendees wouldn't nor would the wedding party, they would just be glad the cake was there. I mean I know that I can't afford to toss that kind of money out the window, can you? would you? I'm just saying....
terrig007 - I'm just saying I think it's very un-professional of the venue rep to become involved in the personal side of the goings on with an even, especially to the extent of gossiping about the personal business of their client. He/she is representing his/her employer and I feel it reflects badly on that facility if the rep is talking about the client's personal business.
I'm not saying the bride didn't deserve cheap sheet cakes after what she the stunt she pulled. Just that if I were at a reception and said to the cake server "gee, no pretty bridal cake?" and got an earful about the bride stopping payment etc etc, I wouldn't be too impressed with the place. I KNOW this isn't what happened, but it's almost as bad.

Well, sh*t!
Guess who's got a dear cake buddy in Searcy Arkansas!!!!
Bwuwahaha. Be right back.
It really seemed too good to be true--so clean cut and I mean the jury's sitll out on this one but...
Geez are we freaked about being scammed or what--
I'm calling my cake buddy as I post...brb

Thank you cakesdivine........... you just said what I have been thinking for the last 30+ pages... why on earth would a caker refuse to deliver a cake... done and ready to go.. get paid.. and end this story... She would not have the hassle of litagation, court time, etc.. All costly to her... The obvious lack of pictures, and name on her website.. and how is she going to deliver that 6 tier beauty anyway? just to name a few of my concerns with this whole saga...

I'd never flame you cause this is my feeling on the entire situation too. I've looked at all those issues you bring up and I agree there are a LOT of holes in this.
Indydebi........both parties were account holders at this bank, that is the point I'm trying to make. The bank should treat ALL their account holders with the same respect. If the bride wasn't an account holder there, then maybe the bank employee was doing her job.
Yes, my DH is a VP but he started at the bottom right out of college in 84. So he's worked his way up and doesn't expect or demand *favors* for family or friends, he's way too professional for that kind of stuff.
Thank God for that.
MOG went and took her ring back from Bride that she had let her son give her as an engagemnet ring and then left the wedding because her son was still going through with it.
I love her. I love her so much.
dsevans, I am so glad this Bridzilla is going to get her JUST reward!
Sorry you had to go thru all this, I know we have all learned at your expense. Your cake was gorgoius, and I think you handled the whole situation ethically and with grace.
Poor MOG, holidays are going to be a hoot!
Good luck on the court procedings. Please keep us posted.
OMG - have we all be had? Is it really a big hoax? K8 - we're hanging on tender-hooks here waiting for your update!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dkelly, I was not implying that against your hubby ... my SINCEREST apologies if it came across that way. My hubby was the same way ... he started in the warehouse as a delivery boy!
But I'll bet both of our hubby's could share stories of prima donna's in the banking world who think they walk on water!

EXACTLY!!!! $550 is a lot of money to me as I'm sure it is to most of you here.
Supposedly the cake was made and ready for delivery and she turns down the offer of full payment of balance because "she doesn't want to deal with the bride and MOB". Sorry, not buying this entire thing. She was supposedly contracted to deliver the cake, the MOG offered to make full payment and she refuses to deliver?

Oh no, I didn't think you were. Its just that the *banking exec's* are getting such a bad name in the news lately and he is definitely NOT one of those that doesn't care about his employees. Probably why he hasn't been *axed* yet........thankfully he's still employed........for now
Oh yeah, they could definitely share stories I'm sure. Hey maybe if we ever get out to the Indy 500 we'll swing by and buy you guys dinner!
edit because of my horrific spelling
Just fr the sake of whatever, she goes ahead and delivers the cake late. She is friendly with the venue. She gets paid but doen't want to look the part of unprofessional right? Wouldn't you have them set up the cake that is already stacked and good to go on a cart and wheel out to make the big impact statement? You then use the cake table as a serving area to make it all part of the plan. If she was offered the final payment and refused to deliver, she is in part voiding the contract? This is all a big ruse to get something going. A six tier cake for $1100 is a bit under cut isn't it, expecially with all those hand roses? Seems to me like some future BTB is looking at this as a possible angle on how to handle her situation. I think it must be a hoax, IMHO
This is gonna get juicy.
Someone pass the popcorn...Oh wait it's Passover, anyone got some matzah?
OP joined not to long ago. Some valid posts...but there is still something fishy here.
OP posted a cake wreck, but had a pic of a BEAUTIFUL cake posted in the forum. Why not posted under her pics?
Where is the pic of the cake for her friend?
I'll just sit back and see how this one unfolds.
Searcy Cake-Buddy has nothing to add so far. Hasn't heard of OP.
Interesting that op has not chimed in more huh.
I'd be all over a post with this much interest.
Heck I am anyway & it ain't even mine.
Hey, I gotta go to work.
But I'll be back for another ride on Drama Lama Express.
You guy are cracking me up with your hoax accusations. I love you all, and am not ragging at you, but I have to say, if not one word of OP's is true, what does that change? We have all been greatly entertained by this thread, and it didn't cost the $10 movie ticket and the $43 for popcorn and soda! It's not like someone is really duping us into something, is it? I don't care if it's true or not, I enjoyed reading it and appreciate all the fun 'free of charge'.
Transporting it to the venue 35 mins away?!?
How have we all been missing this!?!
We are not on top of our game this weekend!!!
Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm giving the marriage 6 months, TOPS.
Seriously, I can't see this having a happy ending. Not unless the bride has a complete "a-ha" moment and changes her ways & tells her mom where to stick it!
That...or, they'll live happily ever after because the groom is just like her. Seriously...we have no reason to believe that they are any different at this point. Birds of a feather flock together....lol
