Okay so I have this massive six tier cake that is for a wedding TONIGHT.

Bride emails last night just checking in re-affirming delivery time and everything.....email her back, everything is great will be putting finishing touches on cake in the am , cake will be delivered and set up at 4:30pm ( wedd starts at 6pm). Basically confirming everything in our contract.

Okay so this may have benn stupid of me but I let them make the final payment on monday because they were waiting on their tax return to come through ( didnt think it was a big deal, their original check went through and they bank at the same bank so its not like i have to wait for the check to go through)

Okay so I am up at 6am finsihing the cake so i can work on getting cake #2 for tomorrow finished.

Get a call a few minutes ago from a friend of mine at the bank and she said that bride just called and put a stop payment on my check.

The lady that called is a good friend and knew i was delivering cake today so she went ahead and called ( typically bank would send a letter--which wouldnt have been here til monday).

So now I am trying to calm myself so when I call the bride I dont tear her a new one........I am so MAD and just dont know why people want to try and get away with crap like that

Okay, sorry had to vent to someone,

Wow but what a hammer you have to pound her with--but of course I always try to check my understanding of the situation before I commence to shoot.

Well didn't you deposit it yet though? Shoulda already cleared--yes?

I want to believe that people don't really try to pull this crap, and I have read so many threads where they blatantly HAVE pulled that crap. Damn....wtf? I would be so livid. I hope that it is a big misunderstanding......not likely though, eh?

Hope you aren't in for major drama....or having to eat 7 tiers of cake this weekend.

Bride not answering phone call, yes I had deposited it but our bank will "recall" the check if a stop payment has been made. I left a message for the bride saying "i'm sure it's an oversight and you gave the bank the wrong check number to stop payment one, however unless you can come by ( or have someone) and pay cash for the balance before noon I cannot deliver your cake as planned. So either I hear back from her and she pays...or it looks like church wuill be having a very large cake for easter.

Well aint that a bunch of crap? Did the check already go through? I dont think you can stop a check after its been cashed. I am soo sory this has happened to you. People are not nice sometimes and it seems to be more nowdays.

jewelykaye Posted 10 Apr 2009 , 2:12pm

You definitely can stop a check after it's went through. I had a previous employer do it to me. I ended up getting it back but it can happen.

Now if you take the check to that person's bank and cash it, there is nothing they can do.

beck30 Posted 10 Apr 2009 , 2:23pm

Ths is why I was thinking that there wouldnt be antthing they could do but I thought they banked at the same place as her. Sorry! icon_confused.gif Im a little tired im not reading things correctly.

summernoelle Posted 10 Apr 2009 , 2:27pm

1. NO cake. Period.
2. I would sue them. I seriously would. You have plenty of proof.

beck30 Posted 10 Apr 2009 , 2:28pm

I never can do that right were something that another person said is in a box of its own. Can someone please tell me how to do that? icon_lol.gif

pkinkema Posted 10 Apr 2009 , 2:30pm

This is interesting...but I feel I'm in the twilight zone! All the posts are listed as Saturday, April 11.

Should I not be at work if it is Saturday already?????? Anyhow, I'm just sitting around waiting to see if the bride comes through! icon_lol.gif

Right. I had a Bride (actually MOB) a few months ago that I had a very bad feeling about, so I went to her bank and cashed it.

GeminiRJ Posted 10 Apr 2009 , 2:32pm

Yikes! If it's all true...what nerve! Wouldn't this be fraud? Grounds to sue? I'd certainly check into it!

beck30, is this what you are trying to do? Each posting has a box in the upper right corner that says "quote." If you click on the quote box, the entire posting comes up in a reply box. You can delete whatever you don't want to show up, but be sure to leave the first
and the
at the end. HTH.

As soon as I hear someone say "waiting for a check" a red flag goes up. If they can't afford to pay for something then they should not order it.

This bride should have saved up the money - paid you and then said thank you. End of story.

Sorry to hear this happened - people wonder why cake people get cranky!

You can select the quote button in their post (upper right corner).

MikeRowesHunny Posted 10 Apr 2009 , 2:35pm

Don't you dare even leave the house with that cake unless they have paid in full in cash for it! That's really some NERVE! Even though I would be mighty PO'd about it, I would happily find the nearest old folks home/women's shelter/orphange etc and give them the cake to enjoy. Then I would sue the asses of the B&G!

beck30 Posted 10 Apr 2009 , 2:36pm

Thank you martha that is what I was trying to do thumbs_up.gif

carmenid Posted 10 Apr 2009 , 2:38pm

so, what happened?

mcdonald Posted 10 Apr 2009 , 2:40pm

let us know what happens... what a bad position to be in..... Why do people have to be so thoughtless of others.... especially when we put so much of our selves into these cakes for the brides... it just makes me sick...

dl5crew Posted 10 Apr 2009 , 2:46pm

Anything happen yet. Someone needs to teach this person manners, and respect

Good for you! And STICK TO YOUR GUNS no matter how much she pleads and begs and makes up a big sad sob story. No money; no cake!

That's a nice idea to donate the cake to your church. You know the people at church would appreciate having a beautiful, delicious cake if this gal doesn't pony up.

This goes way beyond thoughtless! If it's true, the bride is stealing and thought this out beforehand. Theft by deception, maybe?

pianocat Posted 10 Apr 2009 , 2:49pm

Could it be that the bride thought you would not find out about the cancellation so soon?? Normally you don't. Could be that she was going to have a cake at her wedding and then later you would find out about the check. That is fraud. I would also think if they didn't have the money and you don't bring the cake, she will tell everyone that YOU didn't do what you were supposed to do! I would definitely let the venue know! There are laws in some states that make it illegal to stop payment after the fact for something you have contracted them to do. I would check if I were you.

Well you know, that's what I was thinking, too. That she was counting on the OP not finding out in time and still getting her cake.

I just don't understand people sometimes.

aliciag829 Posted 10 Apr 2009 , 2:56pm

I'm thinking the bride was counting her eggs before they were hatched. She probably didn't get her refund check when she thought she would. Like someone else said, she shouldn't buy things she can't afford.

Obtaining goods under false pretenses. This is a serious crime.
