I am just amazed by all these cakes on CC. I am new at cake decorating and would love to make a sculpted cake. I tried using just a regular box mix, but needless to say it fell apart! Can someone give me an idea on how you make these unbelievable beautiful sculpted cakes? Thank you!

start off with a firm textured cake, maybe a pound cake that will sculpt easy. also make sure the cake is chilled, it is easier to carve

I start with a box cake too but always add the extender recipe and it just makes the texture of the mix much more firm and dense. icon_lol.gif

Thanks for the advice. Do you have any suggestions on a firmer cake recipe besides pound cake? I have been searching, but if someone could suggest one that would be great!

Okay, the one I located here on CC is Durable Cake for 3D & Wedding cakes. I have not yet tried it but maybe this would work??

I've had success with the white almond sour cream recipe for carving too! That's in the recipe section as well. icon_lol.gif
