can any one tell me how long you can make a cake up in advance with bc. frosting, and still be good? thanks for any advise. need to do one for easter, but not sure how far ahead i can do it.
if my cake is due Saturday, I bake on thursday and frost and decorate on friday. If I have too many to do in one day, I will freeze the layers.
I usually only do a cake 1-2 days ahead of time.
I bake on Tuesday/Wed
what pattycakes said. I do like sharing the story about my 50th birthday cake. We had the top tier leftover and cut/ate it when the cake was 8 days old (8 days from decorating day ... it had been baked in advance and frozen). It was JUST starting to taste like a bakery cake, or a grocery store cake ... JUST to the point where we say, "Hmmmm, is this cake starting to taste old?" Bear in mind, that we're all cake snobs, of course, so a cake civilian would have thought it was fine.
But since it was just starting to taste like a store-cake, I guess that means it was still good for another week or so! hahahahaha!!!
