Yay! I took a "practice" cake into work yesterday to share and show off, and my plan worked! By the end of lunch, I had an order...my very first! The English Department has asked me to make two large sheet cakes for Shakespeare's birthday. Nothing fancy. I'm pretty stoked.
I'd appreciate any tips or ideas on pricing, stencils (planning to use for the writing), or anything else that might be helpful. Thanks!

Great news! Congratulations.
How large is "two large sheet cakes" What sizes? That will help determine the pricing.
Do they have a specific theme for the cakes? Like a certain Shakespeare play?

that is great! Isn't it an awesome feeling? Be sure to calculate out all of your supplies so you know how much of a profit you'll be making when you price it! good luck!

Cool... getting that first order is always a good feeling. Just make sure it's legal in your state to bake from home for the public before you start advertising and you'll be all set. icon_smile.gif Congrats!
