Good morning!

Here are a couple of recent cakes I've done. The first is roses made for a cake. It doesn't really show in the picture but there were crack marks/dry spots on some of the petals. What can be done about that? Thanks to Tonedna for her tutorial, they were the first roses I've made since class 8 yrs ago.

This is a last minute cake made for my son and I didn't want to stay up all night finishing!

Thanks for looking and critiquing!

Good morning everyone!! Here's a new cake that I did this weekend!! It was very last minute, ordered on Thursday, needed on Saturday. I think I could have added more to the bottom tier, but overall, I'm pleased with it.

Alright here are my last 3 cakes:

This one was done the weekend after my grandpa's funeral and right after I found out about the miscarriage. I just wasn't feeling the cake vibe. I wish I would have canceled.

Everyone has been so respectful and kind. You are really training me to have a more critical eye, and that will only make me better. For that I cannot thank you enough!!!!

I do have a few cake pictures, but they are really crappy so I don't think I will post them. I do have a wedding comming up in June so I will post then. In the mean time I will be checking this thread for new cakes!

So sorry to hear about all you've been dealing with! I pray for healing and peace for you and your family.

Here are a few items I made this weekend.
The first is using gerber daisies, which I had to cut by hand since I do not have a gerber daisy cutter. This is also iced with cream cheese frosting, and it was giving me quite the headache trying to smooth. If anyone has any suggestions on smoothing cream cheese icing, please share!!!
http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1354725.html

These next items I made and donated to a benefit for a friend of ours. Thanx for taking the time to look.

I'd like to be a part of this group too. I had no idea that this was here until someone told me about it. I love the idea of getting detailed feedback from those who know more about cake decorating than I do.

Here are some of my recent cakes.

Daisys_Cakes - Thanks for the comments on my cakes.

Here are some answers to the comments. Yes, I do believe that's cornstarch/powdered sugar on the bottom tier of the wedding cake. I actually hadn't noticed so thanks for pointing it out. I think that stuff hides really well in the awful lighting in my dining room. As for the flowers, I had no idea that those were going to be added until the florist told me that she had them. I'm actually in the process of learning to make gumpasted flowers and would've loved the chance to practice, but oh well. Live and learn on that one, I guess.
As for the groom's cake, I asked them if they wanted tuxedo strawberries and she said that she just wanted the plain ones. Plain and boring, go fig...but that's what she wanted so that's what she got. I'm not sure why the chocolate got lumpy. I'm thinking that maybe I didn't dry the strawberries completely before I dipped them (???).

Sorry this is so long, but this was exactly what I wanted. Thanks so much. icon_smile.gif

Well, it's definitely her loss. If you used chocolate chips, did you use shortening? That would make a difference. I would definitely say that them not being dry would also effect the chocolate as well.

I used a chocolate bark coating, which I've used before and it was smooth. Yeah, it's definitely her loss on the berries. I showed her some pictures of what they look like and she didn't like them. I think they're super cute, though.

Did this one as the wedding gift for a friend. She liked the cake that appeared on her e-vite through Brides.com. They showed a corner of the cake, but I was able to get the gist of their idea. They did have something like cornelli lace on the border space between the tiers, but I just didn't like it. Do you think it would have been better to add it? I thought it would be too busy. Anyway. TFL and commenting. icon_smile.gif

Okay, so I made my first zebra cake and I don't like how it turned out. I really needs some help with this one because I love zebra striped cakes. The other problem was that the humidity kept my BC from crusting so it's not smooth at all. icon_cry.gif

Anyway, critiques and recommedations are always welcome. icon_biggrin.gif
