I need help with design work and colors. The customer wants a blue Monster truck and when I suggested flames on it, she was all over it. I sketched out a truck that I would hand paint on top or do a FBCT. I added my sketch to the SKETCHES gallery and then worked up a couple designs. I'm not sure what color to do for the base of the cake. Here's a link... Any comments with design suggestions is greatly appreciated. I'll take all your suggestions and design the cake as best I can. Then I'll post them and email all the sketches/designs to my customer for her to choose. Thanks!

Welcome to all of the newcomers!! I think I caught up with everyone. If somehow I missed you, please let me know. icon_smile.gif Feel free to critique anything I add on to CC. I am always open to new critiques and ideas that will imporve my cakes. Just keep in mind that sometimes I add cakes that I do at work and so the cake boards and sizes are not up me. icon_sad.gif If it's covered in any type of foil and not fondant, it's probably work related or a specific request from a customer.
I hope you all get out of this group as much as I have so far and that you have fun crossing your limits and taking chances. icon_smile.gif

Here are a couple of ones I finished today.
This one is a chanel purse and, let me tell you, it was challenging on the show. My boss insisted on using straight up fondant, despite my protests. In the future, I will go against her wishes and use gumpaste. This was the third one after fondant kept giving out at the curve.

Thank you for the welcomes!

Here are two I did this past weekend, I cannot for the life of me get those "balls" to look nice. I tried the swirling to the side technique, and as you can see from the close up of the teddy cake, they are still not good - I am up for any and all suggestions......trying hard not to use my finger to PUSH the tips down! (thanks in advance)

Here is a cake from last weekend....
http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1385978

The photographer just sent me the pic which I love. He made me look good!!!
this one is older, but I am just getting around to downloading. The bride stopped in today to say hi and let me know how much she loved the cake. Her brother just got engaged so she wanted to let me know I could be expecting his calls. It's days like these that really help put the bad ones behind me!

Busy Friday!! I look forward to your feedback and critiques thumbs_up.gif

Graduation cake... many many...many issues with this cake but it made it to the celebration. I completely know about the cake board !! I ordered a 14 or 16 but anyway ment to order a 20 in and after I noticed it was too late to find a suitable replacement. I really am Cake-board-challenged!

Oh my gosh I'm wiped!

Never done so many cakes in one week. One more to do tonight then I'm going to fall over!

Please be kind to the princess cake. WISH I had a diamond impression mat. Oh how I wish. I had trouble with my lines and then it got worse from there at 12:30am. Overall it's cute, just don't look too close. ha ha

The baby shower cake is a display cake for the shop. It's my 2nd project. Will take it with me tonight when I go in. I hope they like it!

Here is a new one - solar system cake (not iced smooth as requested by the customer) I even decorated the board - you can't see the sides, but it has a black ribbon with bright purple rick rack. Thanks for looking, and I appreciate all the helpful comments!

One thing, I have a hard time "critiquing" others work - I don't feel that I have enough experience to tell others what I see.....do you get over that??

Thanks everyone!!

Yeah I felt liek I cant critique what I cant do, but I realized we all are in the group to look for what we can do better, so when I look at someones cake I just think if this were my work ( I wish...) but what would I like to have done differently... icon_smile.gif I really enjoy all the helpful feedback !

2 Cakes I did this past weekend. The first is a Jimmy Johnson Nascar cake. I used Mike McCarey's Cakenology DVD to do this. It's a great DVD, but, the bigger the car gets, the harder it is. The cake was to feed 100 people, lots of fondant work, first time I've ever used modeling chocolate and love it, as I moved the cake to the cake board it cracked and I immediately sat down and bawled like a baby icon_cry.gif . I am totally EXHAUSTED and one day, I'll get to take a vacation!! LOL

http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1393632.html

This cake is a replica of one that I saw on CC or either Flickr. CAn't remember where/who, considering my brain is exhausted, just like my body. Oh, the customer drove me insane!! But, I ended up feeling sorry for her and now, I want to adopt her and her baby (I'm such a wuss, icon_redface.gif )
The board is boring because I was rushing to get done.

Hi All!!! Sorry I haven't participated lately. My health combined with the cakes I've been doing have taken away all the time I use to devote here. Please accept my appologies and I won't have time for a while to help here so please take me off of your list for now. When I get some help or can find some extra time I will definitely get back into the swing of it!! Again thanks for your help and accept my deepest appologies. icon_cry.gif

Dave, sorry to hear your not feeling well. You take care and get better and hope you are back to us soon!!!

Here is a crib cake I have made for my granddaughter's 1st birthday!
I would like to try this with gumpaste for the crib, but due to travelling with the cake, I was afraid of breakage, so it is made from wood, (this time)
Let me know what you think

Hi all! I made it - I did my 100 posts to find this group! Just a bit of background on me I'm a SAHM of a 2 1/2 & 1 year old girls who right now is just doing cakes as a hobby to keep some sanity about me but once the girls are in school I'm hoping to have perfected the craft enough to go into business for myself - well that's the plan anyways icon_biggrin.gif This is why I am so happy to have found a group like this that will give honest feedback on the cakes so I know what I need to work on - and I hope to help others as well - not that I feel like I have a right to critique others work but will try icon_smile.gifthumbs_up.gif

Anyway, here are a few cakes I'd like to have some feedback on but please feel free to look at any of my cakes and tell me what you think!! Thanks to all for this opportunity!
